After mounting any rifle scope to a rifle the next step is to sight in or zero the riflescope. This can be done one of two ways: by taking shots with live bullets at a gun range or by utilizing a bore sight. Bore sighting (aligning the optical sight on top of the gun barrel with the axis of your bore) is an effective tool in obtaining an accurate riflescope set up, while also saving time and ammunition.
Bore sighting can be done by several different methods. The oldest way is to disassemble the rifle and to make necessary adjustments until the reticle is pointing perfectly at the target and dead on the bulls-eye. Another way is to use a bore sight with a collimator that mounts at the end of the rifle with arbors. Adjustments can be made with the riflescope windage and elevation adjustments to obtain an accurate zero. Another variation on this is to use a magnetic bore sight, mounts to the end of a rifle with magnets. The final way to bore sight is to use laser bore sights.
Laser bore sight projects a laser beam which is housed inside a bullet casing that fits the caliber of rifle being adjusted. Simply turn the laser on and insert it onto the chamber of the rifle. From there the bore sight laser beam will show the true zero of the rifle and adjustments to the riflescope can be made accordingly.
